We at Miller Countrywide in Torpoint have collectively decided to fundraise for Shekinah Mission, with all of us understanding the value of a warm loving home and a full stomach, and some of us having first hand experience in seeing the devastating effects of homelessness. We do not know the reasons why some people have ended up homeless, but whatever the reason, we can contribute to a homeless person receiving food and drink, lady items, warm clothing, sleeping bags, hot showers, or even a conversation – someone to talk to them and not act like they are invisible. We will be opening our branch on Saturday 15th December (9am - 4pm) and Sunday 16th December (10am - 3pm) where we will be offering free teas, coffees and hot chocolates to all donating visitors, selling a variety of cakes and baked goods, and collecting any money, food, blankets, sleeping bags etc which anyone can afford to spare and donate to this very worthy cause. We will also be asking for donations from colleagues, friends and family in the run up to this event - the more awareness, money and useful items that we can generate, the better! There is never a good time to be on the streets, but as winter's cold nights draw in and Christmas approaches, a time synonymous with spending quality time at home with family and friends, we want to do our bit in helping those unfortunate enough to be sleeping outside in the terrible weather without a place to call 'home' this Christmas Day.
